In Western North Carolina – especially during the pandemic – local libraries are a hub for the community to come together to learn new tools, gather knowledge and share their experiences. That’s why the Macon County Public Library branch of the Fontana Regional Library is a natural partner to work with to share an information session on the BPR and Foxfire COVID-19 Oral History Project.
For the event, BPR reporter Lilly Knoepp and Kami Ahrens, curator at Foxfire Museum, will provide a community tool kit of tips and how-tos for participants so that they can go home and record their own oral histories. This tool kit will also be made available on the BPR and Foxfire websites after the event. While the info session will be virtual, we will be at the Macon County Library in person on the Saturday after (June 5th) with an oral history recording station outside the facility to safely capture stories from folks who attended the info session or who just want to participate in the project.
