Native Plant Week: Days 1 & 2
June 7, 2021 @ 10:00 am - June 8, 2021 @ 3:00 pm
Join us for the first two days of Native Plant Week, a six-day event celebrating the rich diversity of plants in Appalachia! Monday and Tuesday, June 7th and 8th, will feature herbalism demonstrations and storytelling from Cross & Thistle Apothecary as well as bark bucket-making demonstrations from long-time Foxfire contact Joe Williams. Learn about historic and contemporary uses of native plants in the mountain during this week-long program. These on-site activities are included with general admission to the museum. Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis and will be limited to museum capacity. We ask that you please wear a face covering when interacting with our demonstrators. See below for complete schedule of activities. Purchase a membership and save on admission–all members receive free admission to the museum for a year!
Tuesday, June 8th, will also feature guided plant walks from Darryl Patton. Darryl is the author of, “Mountain Medicine, The Herbal Remedies of Tommie Bass,” published by Natural Reader Press and has appeared on Alabama Public Television and the Comedy Channel. Darryl has also been featured in many newspaper and magazine articles relating to the uses of medicinal plants and is in demand nationally as a speaker on alternative medicine. Darryl operates a wilderness survival training school in the mountains of North Alabama where he teaches a wide range of classes such as medicinal plant walks and also offers one-on-one apprenticeships for those seeking to further their knowledge in the world of herbs and alternative medicine.
