Native Plant Week: Day 6

June 12, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Join us for Native Plant Week, a six-day event celebrating the rich diversity of plants in Appalachia! Saturday, June 12th, will feature a wild foods cooking demo with Cara-Lee Langston of Wildcraft Kitchen and an afternoon herbalism demonstration with Patricia Kyritsi Howell of BotanoLogos School of Herbal Medicine.

Wildcraft Kitchen provides guided plant walks & wild foods foraging tours, herbalism & wellness cooking workshops, and small batch locally grown and sustainably wildcrafted kitchen tonics to show people how food and nature can be our medicine.

Transform early summer herbs into healing remedies! Herbalist Patricia Kyritsi Howell shows you how to recognize, harvest, and use an array of herbs from wild and cultivated places, and shares tips for how to use herbs safely and effectively for good health. Patricia Kyritsi Howell, the author of Medicinal Plants of the Southern Appalachians, is an herbalist and teacher based just down the road from Foxfire. Her herb school, the BotanoLogos School of Herbal Studies, is Georgia’s oldest herb school offering online herb classes and field studies.

Learn about historic and contemporary uses of native plants in the mountain during this week-long program. These on-site activities are included with general admission to the museum. Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis and will be limited to museum capacity. Both the guided hike and poetry workshop require separate pre-registration. See events calendar for details. We ask that you please wear a face covering when interacting with our demonstrators. See below for complete schedule of activities. Purchase a membership and save on admission–all members receive free admission to the museum for a year!
